Around Christmas

More pistures I forgot to post.

The Rennaissance Festival

So, some friends suggested we all go to the rennaissance festival together this year. It was an experience, for sure. What do you get when you add "trekkies", swords, chain maille, the ability to call a woman "wench" without getting slapped, and, of course, beer? You get what you see in the background of the pictures below:
Savannah and Maya posing near the front gates.

Three of my four girls. But I cannot but help notice the lack of clothing displayed behind them--especially on the guy without pants. I believe all he had on was maille.

I did this a lot. The festival grounds were huge. It was a pretty nice place to have a conglomeration of planned and passive freak shows. This one happened to be the birds of prey show. An owl flew right over Savannah--she thought that was pretty cool.

My hero. This guy is the epitomy of class, isn't he? I must confess, I saw him a furlong or two behind his current position, and double-backed to get this photo-op. It was well worth it. Now, he can remain immortalized here for all to reverently adore and, perchance upon gazing on this image alone, we too might obtain his state of being (I just couldn't bear to use the word 'glory' there).

Kids had way too much fun and are ready to go. Maya's laying in Maggie's car seat.

San Diego Trip (Oct. '07)

Precisely around Halloween, Dave got a new calling at church that has since been a time-consuming calling. Karen got hers a few months later. That, including a thrid child around the house, pretty much sums up why we haven't called, written, or added anything to this blog. In fact, I'm writing today because I am sick and have nothing better to do.

For "Team Building", the ExxonMobil Deepwater Gulf of Mexico Team went to San Diego to look at rocks along the beaches (fieldwork sure is tough these days).

Unfortunately, this trip coincided with the fires of last year that evacuated a bunch of people. I like this shot showing the smoke from fires on one side and how "clear" (note smog on horizon) it should have been without the smoke. Stupid fires ruined my weekend, though. I was supposed to go to the BYU-SDSU game that saturday, but they cancelled the game. Instead, I was forced to spend a day at the beach pretending to surf. It was fun, really, but I would have rather seen the game (by the way, they didn't refund my tickets).

Here's picture of the smoke from my hotel room in La Jolla.

This is why we were here. If you click on the picture to see it bigger, you might notice the HUGE channel of sand (buff-colored) encased in shaly rocks (greenish-grayish-tan-colored). This is precisely what an oil company targets underground.

True to the free style of Californians. Anyone wanna guess what that small cove back there is used for?
